San Juan Islands.

Last weekend I went to San Juan Islands, an archipelago of more than 100 islands located on the north west part of Washington State and really close to Victoria and Vancouver Island (Canada), Its name was given by a Spanish explorer who found those islands in 1791. Every island has a Spanish name ... Also, the weather was magnificent! The people I met were awesome, my camping site was perfect and the flight ride just breathtaking!


El fin de semana pasado fui a las Islas de San Juan, un archipiélago con mas de 100 islas ubicado la parte noroeste de el Estado de Washington y muy cerca a Victoria y Vancouver Island (Canadá), el Nombre fue dado por un explorador español quien encontró esas islas en 1791. Cada isla tiene un nombre en Español ... El clima estuvo maravilloso, la gente que conocí increíble, mi sitio para acampar perfecto y el paseo en avión simplemente quita aliento!

On Friday, Cass's brothers (John and Joe) picked me up in Seattle. Then we headed up to Anacortéz ferries station, where we took, obviously, a ferry to Friday Harbor at night. Once there, I went to Sue's house (Cass's Sister) where I spent the night. On Saturday Sue and I walked through downtown and the harbor. It was nice to see a small classic fisherman town in such a beautiful day. We also went to the farmer market, the boat spots (where the Seal lives) and the airport (where I met Bob).

El Viernes, los hermanos de Cass (John y Josh) me recogieron en Seattle. Luego fuimos a la estación de feries Anagracia donde obviamente, cogimos un ferry para Friday Harbor en la noche. Un vez allá, fui a la casa de Sue (hermana de Cass) donde pasé la noche. El sábado Sue y yo fuimos a caminar a través de el centro y de la bahía. Fue bacano ver un pequeño y clásico pueblo de pescadores en un día tan bonitísimo. Fuimos también a el mercado de granjeros, los puestos de los botes (donde la foca vive) y al aeropuerto (Donde conocí a Bob).

After taking a look to Downtown Friday Harbor Sue and I went to the Airport to say "Hello" to Bob (Sue's husband)... We went to one of his hangars where he is building a couple of airplanes... I said: Is it your work? and he said... No, is just for Fun!... It was nice to look at  that smart workshop.... After that, Bob invited us really spontaneously (Hahahaha) to take a Flight Ride, my answer as was expected... Yes!.... I had a great time with Bob and Sue, they were kind and helpful with me, and the Flight Ride... Breathtaking! 

Después de echar un vistazo a el centro de Friday Harbor, Sue y yo fuimos al aeropuerto a saludar a Bob (El esposo de Sue). Fuimos a uno de sus hangares donde el esta construyendo un par de avionetas... Yo le dije: Es ese su trabajo? Esto es lo que hace para vivir? y el dijo... No, es solo por diversión!... Fue interesante mirar ese inteligente taller... Después de eso, Bob nos invito muy gentilmente (Jajajaja) a tomar un paseo en avión, mi respuesta como fue esperado... Si!.... La pasé muy bacano con Bob y Sue, ellos fueron muy queridos y amables conmigo, y el paseo en avión... Impresionante!

Once we took the flight ride,  Kelsey (Sue's daughter) left me on the camping site. A beautiful spot really close to the coast, full of cliffs for climbing, snow cap mountains and Killer Whales (Just in Summer sadly)... I pitched my tent, climbed a little bit through the cliffs and cooked hot chilly with crackers. I could just take a few pictures because the camera ran out of battery. The trip itself was amazing. Even though with sun and good weather the temperature still kind of low, 10ºC (55ºF).

Una vez tomamos el paseo en avión, Kelsey (La hija de Sue) me dejo en el sitio para acampar, un bello lugar cerca a la costa, lleno de acantilados para escalar, montañas nevadas y Ballenas Orcas (Tristemente solo en Verano)... Puse mi carpa, escalé un poco en los acantilados y cociné un chili con carne y galletas. Solo pude tomar unas pocas fotos porque la cámara se quedo sin baterías. El viaje fue brutal, sin embargo con sol y buen clima las temperaturas siguen bastante bajas, 10ºC.

Seattle Art Museum.

The last Thursday I went to Seattle's Art Museum with Kevin, I had a great time there. We also hanged out on downtown for a while... For lunch we had an extremely awesome wonderful Sandwich in a place called "Salumi". It was a new experience for my tongue! Basically the sandwich was made with homemade bread, a lot of salami slices, garlic butter and grandma's secret sweet onions recipe (That's what they say). After that "best sandwich ever", well... we went to the museum, where we found a lot of modern pieces of art and  fun stuffs  .....  By the way, I borrow a camera on the islands from someone so I have some pictures, sadly they will not be as good as usual (It was a weird camera).

El jueves pasado fui al museo de arte de Seattle con Kevin, la pasamos bacano. Además estuvimos un tiempo en el centro. Para el almuerzo, nos comimos un extremadamente genial bello sandwich en un sitio llamado "Salumi". Fue una experiencia nueva para mi boca. Básicamente el sandwich consistió en pan artesanal, muchas tajadas de salami, mantequilla de ajo y la receta secreta de cebollitas dulces de la abuela (Eso es lo que ellos dicen). Después de "el mejor sandwich de mi vida", fuimos al museo, donde encontramos muchas piezas de arte moderno y cosas divertidas .... Por otra parte, encontré una cámara en las islas así que tengo algunas fotos, tristemente, no serán tan buenas como los son usualmente (Era una camara muy rara).

2000+ Views.

Through an Adventure has succeeded! (hahahaha) more than 2000 Views in just 2 months and 10 days, isn't that amazing? ... I will be Camping in San Juan Islands for 3 days (The whole Weekend) so, i will not put anything on the blog until Monday evening. Hope you all have enjoyed the blog as well as I have enjoyed writing it. By the way... I left my camera battery at home, so I'll not be able to take pictures on the Islands (I'm a fool, how can I have left that!)

Hanging Out With...

The last couple of days I've been doing new stuffs! On Friday for example, I started to work with new tools and gadgets for me. Because there is a huge garden and a huge pine in the backyard, the fall made fall down lots of leaves so i have to used a blower to keep everything clean, isn't that fun!?

On the weekend Kim and Cass invited us (Kevin and Me) to a Cuban concert, but they didn't go, so we went with some friends of them. Two of those friends were Abby and Tyler, two beautiful, outgoing and really nice girls from Seattle. I had a really nice time with them! Also, we danced Salsa (Something that I  never do at home...) but i feel a had to that night, then we had  a delicious yogurt ice cream. Thanks Abby and Tyler!  ..........  Today, after used a lawnmower  for the first time in my life and cut off the grass obviously , Abby and Tyler picked me up and we went to their high school, a cool place just like in the movies (trophies place, lockers, big theater and library), then we went to the university district where we drank a weird and extremely sweet Japanese beverage and visited the Washington University Campus, a wonderful place full of cherry trees. Thanks for that too!

En los últimos días he estado haciendo nuevas cosas! El Viernes por ejemplo, empecé a trabajar con nuevas herramientas y cosas para mi, porque como saben, hay un gran jardín y un inmenso pino en el jardín trasero, el otoño hace que las hojas se caigan entonces tengo que utilizar una sopladora para mantener todo limpio, ¿No es divertido?

El findesemana, Kim y Cass nos invitaron (Kavin y Yo) a un concierto Cubano, pero ellos no pudieron ir, entonces fuimos con unos amigos de ellos. Dos de esos amigos eran Abby y Tyler dos hermosas, divertidas y bacanas peladas de Seattle. La pasé muy bacano con ellas! Además, Bailé Salsa (Algo que yo nunca hago...) pero sentí que lo tenia que hacer esa noche, después, fuimos a comer un delicioso helado de yogurt. Gracias Abby y Tyler!   .........   Hoy, después de trabajar con una corta pasto por primera vez en mi vida y cortar el pasto, obviamente, Abby y tyler me recogieron y me llevaron a conocer su escuela, un buen lugar justo como en las películas (Sitio para los Trofeos, Lockers, un gran Teatro y Biblioteca), luego, fuimos a el distrito universitario en donde tomamos una bebida Japonesa rarisima y extremadamente dulce y visitamos el Campus de la Universidad de Washington, un maravilloso lugar lleno de arboles de cereza. Gracias por eso también!

Weird Canadian "Bowling".

In my last week in Vancouver i went to play Bowling with some friends of the school one afternoon and I was pretty sure that it was going to be "Real Bowling" and and what i got into it was "Canadian Bowling" a weird game that consist in 3 shoots to 5 pines each one of those 5 has a number (Middle = 5, Side = 3, Finals = 2). Also, the ball is incredibly small (like a big orange), with no holes in it. The experience was ok, but not as good as Real Bowling!  

En mi ultima semana en Vancouver fui a jugar Bolos con unos amigos de la escuela una tarde y estaba seguro que iba a jugar "Bolos Reales" y lo queme encontré fue "Canadian Bowling" un raro juego que consiste en 3 tiros a 5 pinos, cada uno de ellos con un numero (Mitad = 5, Lados = 3, Finales = 2). Además, la bola es extremadamente pequeña (como una Toronja), sin ningún hueco en ella. La experiencia estuvo bien, pero no tan bacana como Bolos Reales!

Walking through Downtown Seattle.

This week the weather in Seattle has been a shit! ... It is raining all day long, however I have to work outside or inside the house. The work has been really nice, chores in the garden and helping to clean the house ... About Seattle, what a wonderful city!. It has a Space feeling and ambient all over Downtown, starting with the Space Needle (below) to the Space train and the Space Center. All of this stuffs beginning with the Needle, were built for the World's Fair in 1962 which its topic was " The Space". They are are a huge landmark for a lot of tourists. To go up there (Top of the Needle) you must pay 20 bucks! and if you want to eat something there is a 75 dollars plate restaurant!

Esta semana el clima ha estado una mierda! ... esta lloviendo todo el día, sin embargo tengo que trabajar sea adentro de la casa o afuera. El trabajo ha estado bastante bueno, algunas tareas en el Jardín y ayudando a limpiar la casa ... Acerca de Seattle, que ciudad tan maravillosa!. Tiene un ambiente como del espacio en en el Centro, empezando con la "Aguja del Espacio" (Abajo) hasta el Tren del Espacio y la feria. Todas estas cosas fueron construidas para la Feria Mundial en 1962 cuyo tema fue "El Espacio". Las cosas espaciales además son un gran atractivo para los turistas. Para ir allá arriba de la Aguja hay que pagar 20 Dolares!    (40 mil!) y si uno quiere comer algo, hay un restaurante de 75 dolares (150 mil!) el plato!

EMP Museum.

I arrived to Seattle the last Saturday and, since then, I had never gone to Downtown until yesterday. Downtown  is really nice, full of tourists, coffee shops and a lot of thinks to see, eat and do. However, i spent most of my time in other place, I decided to go to EMP Museum (Experience Music Proyect) with Kèvin (the other WWOOFer), It was wonderful and funny, an Architecture experience! I also found out that Seattle had lots of  famous rock bands in the past such as Nirvana, The Melvins and... Jimmy Hendrix! 

Yo llegue a Seattle el sábado pasado, y desde eso, no había ido al Centro hasta ayer. El centro es muy bacano, lleno de turistas, tiendas de Café y muchas cosas para ver, hacer y comer. Sin embargo, gaste mi tiempo en otra parte, decidí ir a el EMP (Proyecto de Experiencia Musical) con Kèvin (el otro WWOOFer), estuvo brutal y divertido, una Experiencia Arquitectónica! Además, me di cuenta que Seattle tuvo muchos artistas famosos,  como Nirvana, The Melvins y... Jimmy Hendrix!

First Look... Seattle!

Finally, I'm in the States! ...  The last Saturday (24th) I took a bus from Vancouver to Seattle (Washington State... Up north in the West Coast), the bus ride was comfortable but the boarder wasn't, boarder agents made me wait for almost half an hour, probably because I'm from Colombia (We are in the 21th century!) . After that inconvenient everything has been going perfectly. As I told, I found as Volunteer job in Seattle, so I'm there already. The owners of the house are Cass and Kim, wonderful and kind people, also, the food is really tasty, and my room is cozy... Amazing everything around here! .... About the work, they have told me that is about 4 hours a day, which is perfect for me, plus, there is another WOOFer from France named Kevin, nice guy! (WWOOF is a organic farm community where you can find a job as a traveler or give a job as a farmer).  I will stay here for 3 weeks, then... Portland!

Finalmente estoy en Los Estados Unidos! ... El sábado pasado (el 24) cogí un bus desde Vancouver hasta Seattle (Estado de Washignton... En el norte de la costa Oeste), el viaje estuvo bastante cómodo pero la frontera no lo fue, los Agentes de la frontera me hicieron esperar por casi 30 minutos, probablemente porque soy colombiano (Estamos en el siglo 21!). Después de ese inconveniente todo a salido perfecto. Como ya dije, encontré un trabajo como Voluntario en Seattle, así que ya estoy en eso. Los dueños de la casa son Cass y Kim maravillosas y amables personas, además, la comida es deliciosa y mi cuarto es comodísimo... Todo muy bien por acá! .... Acerca del trabajo, ellos me han dicho que es aproximadamente 4 horas por día, lo que es perfecto para mi, también, hay otro WWOOFer de Francia llamado Kevin, un bacan! (WWOOF es una comunidad de granjas orgánicas donde uno puede encontrar trabajo como viajero, o dar trabajo como granjero)

Today i had my last day of school at St. Giles. It wasn't easy to say good bye to my wonderful classmates and funny teachers (or maybe the other way around). I spent 2 amazing months around nice people from who i learned lots of things from their cultures and ways of living... It was just breath taking! I will miss you guys (Jerome, Aline, Jenny, Edmond, Poline, Sophie, Arturo, Isaline, Katie, Bryan, Marco, Gina, Murielle... and many more) If some day you want to go to Colombia you are more than welcome at my place.  See you guys one of these days! Nice to meet you all.

Hoy tuve mi ultimo día de clase en St. Giles. No fue fácil decir adiós a unos maravillosos compañeros y divertidos profesores (o tal vez al reves). Estuve rodeado de buenas personas de las cuales aprendí muchas cosas de sus culturas y su modo de vivir... Fue brutal! voy a extrañarlos (Jerome, Aline, Jenny, Edmond, Poline, Sophie, Arturo, Isaline, Katie, Bryan, Marco, Gina, Murielle... y muchos mas) Si algún día quieren visitar Colombia, están mas que bienvenidos en mi casa. Los veré uno de estos días! Fue un placer conocerlos.

About what is going to happen next... Here is the news. I found a Volunteer job in Seattle for 3 weeks, It means, I have to work in a Farm 4 or 5 hours a day in trade with food and shelter (No Money, Otherwise it would be illegal). I will take a bus tomorrow in the morning to Seattle.... Right now, I'm free and avid for everything, the real adventure just begins today, this last months were awesome though.

Acerca de lo que va a pasar... Aquí están la noticias. Encontré un trabajo Voluntario en Seattle por 3 semanas, significa que tengo que trabajar por 4 o 5 horas al día a cambio de comida y dormida (Sin dinero, de lo contrario seria Ilegal). Tomare un bus para Seattle mañana en la mañana.... Ahora, estoy libre y preparado para lo que sea. La real aventura apenas comienza. Sin embargo estos 2 meses fueron impresionantes también.

Last days in the Great White North.

This is my last week in Vancouver, Just 5 more days in the Great White North, with no way to return... Why?  because, with my Student Visa I'm only able to entrie one time to Canada. It sucks! .... My Next stop is Seattle a huge US city located just 4 hours by car from Vancouver. Right now, I'm staying in Luaay's apartment, he is a  really nice guy from Yugoslavia, he did hitchhiking through USA and Canada, Europe, and China (that's so freaking awesome!) so, I've learned a lot of good tips and "hitchhike technique" for my next adventures ..... I'll definitely try to Hitchhike in the States, it sounds great, funny and it's good for your wallet too.

Esta es mi ultima semana en Vancouver, solo 5 días mas en el "Norte", sin vía de retorno... Porque? porque mi Visa de estudiante solo permite una entrada a Canadá. Es una Mierda! .... Mi próxima parada es Seattle una enorme ciudad de Estados Unidos a solo 4 horas en carro desde Vancouver. Ahora mismo, me estoy quedando en el apartamento de Luaay, una persona muy bacana de Yugoslavia, el hizo Hitchhiking (echar dedo en la carretera) a través de USA y Canadá, Europa y China (Eso es muy impresionante!) entonces, he aprendido mucho acerca de la técnica de un Hitchhiker y buenos tips para mi próxima aventura .... Definitivamente voy a Hitchhikear en los Estados Unidos, suena bacano, divertido y es bueno para el bolsillo.

My Saint Patrick's Day.

The March 17th Irish people celebrates St. Patrick's day, a cultural and historic event that represents the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. However in New York, Boston, Chicago, London and here in Vancouver it is a big deal too (more then a few blocks of line to go into a Pub!). It is an important day focused in wearing green clothes and drinking beer (which certainly was green too), sadly for me, a 18 years old guy it is impossible to celebrate this day like an Irish. Therefore, i went out with some other friends and took some pictures of the city. There was a nice weather that night!... Today in the afternoon i will be moving to my new place. It's close to my last home-stay, just 15 min. in Sky-train from downtown. 

El Sábado en Irlanda, el día de San Patricio es algo grande, para ellos, significa un evento cultural e histórico importante. Sin embargo, en Nueva York, Boston, Chicago, Londres y aquí en Vancouver es algo bastante  impactante también (mas de unas cuantas cuadras de cola para entrar a un bar). Es un gran evento dedicado practicamente a usar ropa verde y a  cerveza (que por cierto también era verde), tristemente para mi, un muchacho de 18 años es imposible celebrar como un Irlandés. Por lo tanto, salí con unos amigos y tome algunas fotos de la ciudad, había un buen clima esa noche!... Hoy en la tarde me estaré mudando a un nuevo sitio. Es cerca del homestay, a solo 15 min. en Skytrain del centro.

Hey There! I haven't' written for a long time (Almost 1 week) because actually, there is not so much amazing things to tell, write or show. Currently I'm staying in Julien's and Alexa's apartment, I'm having a great time, we talk a lot of interesting things and watch some movies at night. Plus they are a life savers for me... In the Couch looking I hadn't luck but I'm still trying to find one. The next week is my last one in Vancouver and Canada, I will take a bus to Seattle on Saturday or Sunday, once there, I'm going to look for a job in a farm or something related to the nature. The weather is way better than a few weeks ago, almost everyday there's sun!...... By the way, There is a new video in my Blog, just below of  "My personal data"... It has a train track picture.

Hola! No he escrito por un largo tiempo (casi una semana) porque actualmente no hay mucho que contar, escribir o mostrar. En estos momentos me estoy quedando en la casa de Julien y Alexa. En la búsqueda del sofá no he tenido mucha suerte, pero sigo intentando. La próxima semana es muy ultima en Vancouver y en Canadá, voy a coger un bus para Seattle el sábado o domingo, una vez allá, voy a buscar trabajo en una granja o en algo relacionado con la naturaleza. El clima esta mucho mejor que hace unas semanas, casi diario hay sol!.... Ademas, hay un video nuevo en mi blog, justo abajo de "Datos personales"... tiene una imagen de unos rieles de tren.
