Traveling Around So Cal.

From Monday (Memorial day) to Tuesday, Maria's aunt Liliana took us to do different things. On Monday we went to San Diego (The southern big city in California). First we went to Sea World, a huge Park-Zoo where humans really know how to do amazing things with Dolphins, Whales, Seals and a couple of more animals. The shows were great and the weather was magnificent... This is not the kind of plans I use to do but it was really fun though. After Sea World, we went to Downtown San Diego and some San Diego beaches. What a beautiful city!...... Then, we came back to L.A to meet up Liliana's husband to go have dinner (first time in a restaurant in a long time!).... We spent the night in Liliana's house. The next day we went to the Cinema to watch Man In Black 3! ............ Bad news are that I got sick yesterday, I had a really hard stomach ache.

Thanks so much to Maria's aunt and uncle. I had a blast!

Desde el Lunes (Día conmemorativo a los veteranos de guerra) hasta el Martes, La tía de Maria, Liliana nos llevo a diferentes lugares. El Lunes fuimos a San Diego (La ciudad mas grande al sur de California). Primero fuimos a Sea World, un Parque-Zoologico inmenso donde los humanos realmente saben como hacer cosas brutales con Delfines, Ballenas, Focas y muchos otros animales. Los shows estuvieron muy buenos y el clima maravilloso... Este no es uno de los planes que suelo hacer pero estuvo muy divertido. Después de Sea World, fuimos al centro y a algunas playas de San Diego. Que bonita ciudad!..... Luego, nos devolvimos a L.A para encontrarnos con el esposo de Liliana para ir a comer (primera vez en mucho tiempo que no voy a un restaurante!)..... Pasamos la noche en la casa de Liliana. El próximo día fuimos a cine a ver Hombres de Negro 3! ....... Las malas noticias son que me enfermé ayer, tuve un dolor de estomago muy fuerte.

The Touristic and Awesome Hollywood.

(Where the magic of movies, T.V shows and entertainment begun... For some people, Hollywood sucks, in my opinion it is awesome!)

Right now, I'm in Irvine, a "small" city about 1 hour from L.A. I'm staying with my friend Maria in a good apartment, however, there is nothing to do in the city. The ambient is weird and kind of depressing. Every street is the same and no one is walking or doing exercise... Yesterday, Denise (Maria's friend from Mexico), Maria and I went to Hollywood to try our luck in the big screen. We started in the walk of fame, a 2 mile street walk full of stars with famous names on them. I couldn't find Woody Allen but I found some good ones though. Then, we walked by theaters, crowds and movie stars (True story). After that, about 4 pm and braking my rule...... We jumped into a tourist bus to make a tour through the Hollywood sign, Beverly Hills and much more things! ... We also had a really good hot dog in Hollywood Av. Mine was vegetarian but it was so so good!

Ahora mismo, estoy en Irvine, una pequeña ciudad a mas o menos 1 hora desde L.A. Me estoy quedando con una amiga en un buen apartamento, sin embargo, no hay nada que hacer en la ciudad. El ambiente es raro y un poco depresivo. Cada calle es igual y nadie esta caminando o haciendo ejercicio... Ayer, Denise (Una amiga de Maria de México), Maria y Yo, fuimos a Hollywood para probar nuestra suerte en la pantalla grande. Empezamos en el camino de la fama, 3 Km y medio de andenes con nombres de famosos en ellas. No pude encontrar a Woody Allen pero encontré algunos muy buenos. Luego, caminamos a través de teatros, multitudes y estrellas de cine (Es cierto). Luego de eso y rompiendo mi regla... Nos montamos en un bus turístico para hacer un recorrido por el letrero de Hollywood, Beverly Hills y muchas otras cosas!... También, nos comimos en muy buen perro caliente en la Avenida de Hollywood. El mio fue vegetariano pero estaba muy muy bueno.

I made it to L.A.

A few days ago and even yesterday morning  I was looking for a transportation method to L.A... Lucky for me, in the last minute I found a Ride share! The experience was ok but the guy talked almost all the way (5 hours) in a disrespectful way about religion and politics....Finally I got to L.A in the afternoon but the guy left me in Beverly Hills so I had to find a way to Downtown and then to Irvine (a small city close to L.A)... But L.A it is extremely huge! so, every leg was about 1 hour. At the end of the day, about 12 at night to mi friends house.......... I've been really busy this couple of days, that's way I'm a little bit delay on the Blog.

Hace unos días he incluso ayer en la mañana estaba buscando por un método de transporte para Los Angeles... Por suerte, en el ultimo minuto encontré un Ride share! La experiencia estaba ok pero el man hablo casi todo el camino (5 horas) en un modo irrespetuoso acerca de religión y política... Finalmente, llegue a L.A en la tarde pero el man me dejo en Beverly Hills entonces tuve que encontrar el modo de ir al centro y luego a Irvine (Una pequeña ciudad cerca a L.A), pero L.A es extremadamente grande! así que cada tramo fue de una hora. Al final de el día, a rededor de las 12 de la noche a la casa de mi amiga....... He estado realmente ocupado estos últimos días, por eso es que estoy un poco atrasado en el Blog.

The Lost Coast and The Eclipse.

Hey you all! This is why I didn't put anything on the Blog for a few days.... Last weekend Phil (The guy I met in Yosemite with who I climbed the Half Dome) and I went to the Lost Coast for a little camping trip on the beach. The trip was amazing, the landscapes were spectacular, the wildlife was present all the time and the timing for the Solar Eclipse was perfect.

Hola a todos! Aquí esta el porque no puse nada en el blog los últimos días.... El fin de semana pasado, Phil (El man que conocí en Yosemite con el cual escale el Half Dome) y Yó fuimos a La Costa Perdida para un pequeño viaje de camping en la playa. El viaje fue maravilloso, el paisaje espectacular, la vida salvaje presente todo el tiempo y la sincronización para el eclipse solar perfecta.

First Part: After spent the night in Phil's house, we took the car at 6 am to headed to Northern California throughout the 101. Once in the Lost Coast, we assembled our backpack and started to walk all the way north on the beach. The first camp was located 9 miles from where we leaved the car, plus, walk on the sand is really hard, almost impossible sometimes. However, we rested in the middle of the trail, had lunch and fell sleep for 2 hours. Finally we arrived our destination in Fisherman's camp. Nice spot in a small canyon.

Primera Parte: Después de pasar la noche en la casa de Phil, tomamos el carro a las 6 de la mañana para dirigirnos al Norte de California a través de la 101. Una vez en La Costa Perdida, nos montamos los morrales y empezamos a caminar hacia el norte en la playa. El primer campamento estaba ubicado a 15 Km desde donde dejamos el carro, además, caminar en la playa es muy difícil, casi imposible algunas veces. Sin embargo, descansamos en la mitad del camino, comimos almuerzo y nos quedamos dormidos por 2 horas. Finalmente llegamos a nuestro destino en el campamento pesquero. Buen lugar en un pequeño cañon.

Second Part: The next day, we went to Buck Creek, a beautiful spot closer to the car than the other one, with a wider view to the Solar Eclipse. We put our tent and set up everything for the Eclipse. We made a good lunch with some beers and waited for it... Again, we fell sleep on the beach, but no worries, we cached it. The Eclipse type was Annular, it's basically that the distance between the moon and the sun is perfectly calculated that makes a "Ring of Fire". Then, after the eclipse, we hang out with some people on the camp who invited us to Indian food. Finally we spent the night there and went to the car the other day to came back to San Francisco... By the way, in the way back, we had an incredibly Bagel with pesto, cream cheese and Salmon. Delicious!

Segunda Parte: El día siguiente, fuimos a Buck Creek, un hermoso lugar mas cerca del carro que el otro, con una vista mas amplia del Eclipse Solar. Armamos nuestra carpa y organizamos todo para el Eclipse. Hicimos un buen almuerzo, tomamos cervezas y esperamos... De nuevo, nos dormimos en la playa, sin embargo, lo vimos. El Eclipse es de tipo Anular, es básicamente que la distancia entre el sol y la luna es perfectamente calculada para crear un "anillo de fuego". Luego, después del Eclipse, pasamos un rato con una gente que estaba en el campamento quienes nos invitaron a comida Hindú. Finalmente, pasamos ahí la noche y fuimos al carro al otro día para volver a San Francisco... Por cierto, en la venida, nos comimos un increíble Bagel con pesto, queso crema y Salmón. Delicioso!

Crowded Break!

I was away in an another Camping trip which is not this one but I'll put some of it tomorrow!...... Last Wednesday I took "my" bike and decided to go out of San Francisco Area. At first, I was trying to get to Muir Woods (A national Recreational center located in the Redwoods (Those huge trees (Sequoia (too much parenthesis)))). But after asking and asking to cyclist I realized that the best plan was actually Mountain Biking... That's why, I took trails and paths to go to Muir Woods instead of taking of a boring asphalt road.... The whole trip was magnificent! I only ran into 5 people tops in 8 hours of biking, I lost the track a couple of times and fell down from the bike a couple more, however I made it! Once in the Muir Woods I went to the entrance but it wasn't free so I didn't go in. Then, I climb a little more bit and I headed to Sausalito where I took a ferry to SF downtown... I finished tired and hungry! 

He estado afuera en el campo haciendo otro paseo que no es este, pero pondré algo de el otro mañana!....... El Miércoles pasado, tomé "mi" bicicleta y decidí salir de San Francisco. Al principio mi plan era ir a Muir Woods (un área recreaciónal ubicada en los Redwoods (Esos arboles gigantes(Sequoias (muchos paréntesis)))), pero luego de preguntar y preguntar a ciclistas, me di cuenta que el mejor plan era realmente practicar ciclo montañismo... Por eso, tomé caminitos y trochas para ir a Muir Woods en vez de una carretera pavimentada. Todo el viaje fue magnifico! Solo me encontré con 5 personas en las 8 horas de cicla, me perdí un par de veces y me caí un par mas, sin embargo terminé! Una vez en Muir Woods fui a la entrada pero no era gratis así que no entre. Luego, subí un poco mas y me dirigí a Sausalito donde tomé un ferri para el centro de SF... Terminé cansado y con mucha hambre!

Doing Little Things.

Not always is huge plans! For instance,  I've been staying at home or doing some small things around the city... The reason is because the weather is not so neat and let's face it, weather is the mood too! Last Saturday I had a wonderful afternoon accompanied with my friend Jessy, she was my English teacher and climbing buddy while I was in Colombia for a few months. I met her mother and we took a walk across waterfront then, we met with her dad and had dinner at a Thai restaurant, it was delicious, Thank! It's nice to have dinner with Vegetarians too, it is comfier. On Sunday I stayed in the Island where I played Tennis with Mike for 3 hours. It was really good! Finally on Monday I went to Chinatown with Pina and Lisa (Pina's friend from Mexico) We had fun time there. 

No siempre hay que hacer planes grandes! Por ejemplo, estos días me he quedado en la casa o haciendo cosas pequeñas alrededor de la ciudad... La razón es porque el clima no es el mejor y hay que afrontarlo, el clima es también el humor! El Sábado pasado tuve una tarde maravillosa acompañado de mi amiga Jessy, ella fue mi profesora de ingles y compañera de escalada mientras yo estaba en Colombia por unos meses. Conocí a su mamá y luego nos fuimos a caminar por el malecón, luego nos encontramos con su papa y comimos en un restaurante Thai, estaba delicioso, Gracias! Fue divertido comer con vegetarianos, es mas tranquila la cosa. El Domingo me quedé en la isla donde jugué tenis con Mike por 2 horas. Fue muy bueno. Finalmente el Lunes fui a Chinatown con Pina y Lisa (Una amida de Pina de México) La pasamos bacano.

Graffiti in San Francisco.

A few days ago, I was riding on my bike through out  San Francisco streets, more exactly on The Mission (a very unique neighborhood with a Mexican and Asian mood)... Mike, Pina's boyfriend was telling me that in some parts of the neighborhood there are gangs that used to wear color T-shirts to identified them-selves, in one part is blue and the other one  is red... lucky for me I was using both ;) ... The Graffiti, nowadays is being use to decorate some parts of the city. Graffiti men have permits to paint it in certain places, however,  "vandalism" still being a huge problem in some areas. The paintings are related with war, racism, communism, commercialism or even sex. Some others are not thematic.

Desde hace unos pocos días, he estado montando en la bici por las calles de San Francisco, mas exactamente en The Mission (un barrio único con un ambiente Asiático y Méxicano)... Mike, el novio de Pina me estaba contando que en algunas partes del barrio hay pandillas que suelen usar los colores de las camisetas para identificarse a sí mismos, una parte es azul y otra es roja... Por suerte para mi, estaba usando ambas ;) ... El Graffiti, en estos días es usado para decorar algunas partes de la ciudad. Grafiteros, tienen permisos para pintar en algunos sitios, sin embargo, el "vandalismo" sigue siendo un problema en algunas áreas. Los dibujo tienen relacion con la guerra, el racismo, comunismo, comercialísmo o incluso sexo. Algunos otros solo decorativos.
